The leaves are used in Malaysian folk medicine to treat cancer, rheumatism and ulcers. Tan et al. (2005) found that leaf extract was toxic to breast cancer cells, while Sim et al. (2010) found that it did not have toxic effects on healthy mice after oral ingestion.
